PRIORITIES THAT MATTER
Keep Kids in the Classroom.
Post-pandemic, there has been a spate of absenteeism with nearly one-third of certain SFUSD populations missing over 10% of instruction days.
We need to target this chronic absenteeism through increased parent involvement, support for students facing the greatest needs, and an enhanced classroom experience that provides for better student outcomes.
Individualize Support.
Early intervention for students who need extra help, is critical. As a school district, SFUSD must employ the most effective ways to screen for student needs, and take a culturally-appropriate approach.
Excellence in schools is a right of all students, and we must work to establish curricula that close the equity gaps in math, literacy, and college readiness.
Balance the Budget.
Our money must reach the classrooms, period. While there are certain structural issues that SFUSD faces, we must work alongside stakeholders to cut costs in areas that divert resources away from students and teachers.
We need to take a pragmatic, data-driven approach to budgeting that puts classroom excellence as its top priority. Only great classrooms will attract more families that will lead to greater revenues.
